Studying within the program will allow students to explore state-of-the-art technologies of high-speed surface transport. Future engineers receive fundamental knowledge and skills in electrical and mechanics engineering, reliability theory, and automatic control systems. Students are able to integrate the newest technologies of computer design connections and rolling stock frameworks, learn about design features of vehicles with linear engines on a magnetic suspension, issues of aerodynamics of rolling stock, justification and implementation of the most modern technical and technological solutions at enterprises engaged in the operation, maintenance and repair of rolling stock.

A good engineer should have a fundamental knowledge in fields of heating and electric engineering, material and mechanical science, operate and maintain any types of locomotive. The main goal of the program is to train engineers for the design, operation and maintenance of autonomous locomotives (diesel locomotives, gas-turbine locomotives) of railways. In the training program, much attention is paid to the study of locomotive power plants – diesel, gas turbine engines; the use of energy storage and fuel cells on rolling stock. In addition, the study of electric machines and electrical equipment, locomotive control systems; the crew part of the rolling stock, technical and technological solutions at enterprises that operate, maintain and repair rolling stock.
